The Derry area has many annual traditions–including the summer agricultural fair in the township and, recently revived, the fall Railroad Days festival in the borough.

Another yearly occurrence in that neck of the woods is several reported sightings of a fellow whose shoes would be hard to fill–that is, if he wore any.

We’re talking about Bigfoot, whose exploits are among the unusual phenomena cataloged annually by Stan Gordon–a Greensburg resident who has specialized in researching unexplained happenings in Pennsylvania and beyond since 1959.

Posted (bigfoot) in Hominid Other on March-24-2008

If you browse the news websites, you’ll read articles about recent discoveries in anthropology. Often these articles talk about when “humans” emerged on the planet. But the term “human” gets tossed about in a rather cavalier manner, sometimes referring to Homo sapiens and sometimes not. You see, since science presumes humans evolved from ancient hominids, those ancient hominid species can be referred to as “human” too. Yet most of us humans think of the term as meaning Homo sapiens.

Associated Press - March 17, 2008 2:35 PM ET

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Next month’s hunt for Sasquatch in West Virginia will center around the Greenbrier River region.

The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization Founder and Director Mathew Moneymaker recently released new details about the April 10-13 hunt.

Earlier, the group had declined to release the location of the expedition, fearing that curiosity seekers would compromise the results.

More than 50 West Virginia sightings are documented on the group’s Web site, which says there have been 23 reported sightings in Virginia in the past 50 years. The most recent were in 2004, in Scott and Franklin counties.

Lisa reports:

There’s a new show on the SciFi channel: Destination Truth. Pretty cool show that explores fact/fiction. One of the first broadcasts was Wednesday night. If you saw it, you saw Virtual Earth all over it!
