Encounter Summary

Sighting ID: 32880
Sighting Zone: 3
Date: 1969-1972, year long
Time: mostly at night
Duration Of The Sighting: duration of our visit
What the encounteree was feeling during the sighting: Wasn’t afraid, somewhat curious, because at the time none of us ever heard of bigfoot, yeti, etc. We called them Blue Eyed Thump Thumps…because of the blue eyes and the sound they made on the ledge above the pit when they walked.

Location Details

Location Name: Place called the Rock Crusher. Three miles between Hommassa Springs and Crystal River. Off of US 19. The road that ran behind the airport with two hugh golf ball signs.
Location Description: There was only one road that ran down into the Rock Crusher which was a lime stone mining pit. It had a large beautiful swimming hole, which was widely used for camping, swimming and partying. along the sides of the pit there where ledges and bushy areas. On the top of the pit was woodland areas, in the back of the pit there were ravines, with many caves, and dense woods. In the pit itself towards the walls there were small areas of mucky swampy areas. There is one more thing I’d like to tell you about the pit, in the lake there where giant tadpoles, but you would never see any frogs or any other animals in the pit. We visited the Rock Crusher so many times between 1969-1972 and we never seen any animals in the pit. We alway thought that was very strange. Lost touch with others but can give names but don’t know addresses. At times there was as many as 70 of us there to witness these sightings. When we would go to the Rock Crusher the question wasn’t would you see a bigfoot, the question was how many would you see that night.
Location County: Citrus
Location State: FL
Location Country: United States

Weather Conditions: mostly clear weather both cool and hot nights.
Ground Condition: Some areas where dry and other areas were mucky swampy types, we would find hugh foot prints in the mucky areas.

Additional information about the creature: Grunts, moans, chirps, and when shot it maded a very low mooing sound like a cow.

Evidence Collected

Status Of The Evidence: I do not have possession of the evidence.

Tracks In The Area:
There were tracks in the area.

The creature emitted an odor: One of our firt visits to the Rock Crusher, we left a blanket and other stuff and went in the car to find more wood. When we came back the blanket was soaking wet, and it stunk so bad you couldn’t get near it. There was also foot prints (wet) like it swam acrossed the lake to get to our picnic area.
I noticed something unusual associated with the encounter: No matter when you went to the Rock Chursher, they were always there. At times one would come as close as 30 feet from where we parked our car. They’d watch us like they were curious about us.
Additional comments about the sighting: The bigfoots we witnessed was dark brown hair with dark and light spots. They weren’t solid brown.

I would love to talk to you about Rock Crusher Canyon. I drive by there several times a week and would love to know what it was like before it was developed. I’m also interested in you encounters with the bigfoot.

what I’m about to tell you happend Aug.26,2004.I’m from northern California and have nheard of all the stories of Bigfoot. im from towns like Strawberry,Longbarn and Twain Heart which have a deep history of sightings.I’ve always been a skiptic on the matter.Ive hiked ridge to ridge from Yosemite to Sonora Pass and never seen a bigfoot. in 2000 my wife and I moved to St.Petersburg and every other year we would drive across countryto see the family. At 4:30 am were driving in between Spring Hill and Crystal River and coming at us in the middle of Hwy 19. It was like slow motion at this point., I looked the speedometer i was traveling 59 miles an hour, nobody was around us and I swerved to the Left to avoid hitting it and grazed its right hip. It was so fast,it ran like a Ape. At the time i had never heard of a Swamp or Skunk Ape.I never thought it was a bear, they just dont move like this. it was dark out the fur was brown and the face was very light colorednot white but very light brown. by myself i would have stopped since i was with my wife i decided to continue on for safety. not much scares me. Ive encountered Grizzles and Mountain Lions and never felt the way i felt on that morning on Aug.26th,2004.I’ve published this story and have not told many people. If it happened to only me i would of never told this. I still see this Animal in my mind. I’ve never been able to shake it from my mind. From the Sierra Nevada mountains I’ve become an expert survivalist long before all those survivor programs one see’s on TV. I”m acuall looking for a person with the same skills survivor wise to go deep in the swamp and find this creature.Only for a week or two at a time. I’ve become obsessed with this Ape like creature. It almost haunts me. I dont want to kill it,I just want to Quinch my Curiosity.I would never tell this story if it wasn’t true. Feel free to contact me. thank you for your time, steve

I hunted the area that Steve wrote about. Between Spring Hill and Homosassa. We mostly hog hunted at night out in the swamps sitting in tree stands. Although I have never come face to face with a skunk ape, I’ve always suspected that there may be one near by.

One night I was sitting in a 2 man tree stand with one of my sons and we kept hearing heavy footsteps and what sounded like someone slamming wood against a tree. Hogs can sometimes make a lot of noise when they are coming in, so we just sat and waited. We were both pretty certain that we would be filling the freezer before the night was over. There was no wind and there was something rather large moving around out there. Everything got real silent for about 45 minutes or so and then a healthy tree about 4 to 6 inches around at the trunk came crashing down in our direction. Startling us both to say the least. We never saw as much as a raccoon that night.

Almost every time we hunted that area we would have some unusual sounds around us, you could hear something large walking, breathing and low deep sounds.

It could have been nothing more than a bear, but I kind of have my doubts, I was trained in wildlife management and the behavior and sounds don’t exactly match any from my experience. Working with wildlife in the past I have encountered all kinds of animals. I’m not saying it wasn’t a bear or panther or some other large commonly known wildlife. Without seeing what it was I couldn’t say for sure what was out there, I’m just saying it doesn’t act like anything I have encountered. I was always hoping to catch it on my game cameras….there’s a whole other story when it comes to that.

Steve, I had my outdoor and wildlife survival skills taught to me in the northern territory. Florida is a whole different ball game. I would love to go along with you, but I’m a little out of my league down here

Good luck finding this guy. I’m not sure if it was a skunk ape or what it was coming into my hunting area this year, but I can say it didn’t want to be seen
