Is it Bigfoot? Or a fugitive from the garden of Eden. Or maybe both.

The Journal of Mormon History recently published a new investigation into stories suggesting that the giant Sasquatch monster is really Cain, the murderous second son of Adam and Eve. It may not be the first controversy tackled by new Mormon President, Thomas S. Monson. But the article’s author, Matthew Bowman cites a 1919 manuscript describing Hawaiian missionary E. Wesley Smith “being attacked by a huge, hairy creature, whom Smith drives off in the name of Christ” the night before the mission was dedicated. Read more »

In August of 2004, Emily Wallace, Teresa Morgan, Nick Atkins, and Rodney Silva vanished into the mountains of North Carolina. Three days later, six bodies were recovered by state rescue workers. After a brief investigation, the case was placed with similar occurrences in an open file at the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The status of each remains “unsolved”.

It’s big. It’s hairy. It stinks. It lurks in the woods - and it’s been spotted near Tate’s Hell.

It’s Florida’s own monster: the Skunk Ape, known in other parts of the world as Bigfoot, Yeti, the Abominable Snowman and Sasquatch.

True believers say the Skunk Ape is real (stop rolling your eyes!). Files at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirm that many people say they’ve seen one.

A few freethinkers hope to spot the legendary creature themselves this fall. That’s when Scott Marlowe - a manly man, unafraid to hike into the swamps during the wee hours, when alligators bellow and owls cry - leads an expedition in search of the Skunk Ape, somewhere in the wilds of Florida.

OLYMPIA — Forty-one years after video of a hairy, ape-like creature spawned debate about the existence of Sasquatch, one of the men who shot the film addressed believers and doubters Saturday in Olympia.

Robert Gimlin of Yakima, one of two men who said they witnessed a creature in 1967 in Northern California, held the rapt attention of more than 100 people at the State Capital Museum. The hourlong presentation drew so much interest that some had to be turned away, museum manager Susan Rohrer said.
